Acupuncture in pregnancy
Tuesday, May 21, 2013
I recently attended a seminar on acupuncture in pregnancy by the legendary practitioner Debra Betts from New Zealand. Debra is a trained midwife and acupuncturist with a couple of large hospital clinics in New Zealand.
Acupuncture is perfectly safe throughout pregnancy and we can treat a huge range of conditions women suffer with. These include morning sickness, depression, headaches/migraines, back and pelvic pain, symphysis pubis disorder, rib pain, stress and anxiety, oedema, mild pregnancy induced high blood pressure and gestational diabetes - to name but a few.
With moxibustion we can help turn breech babies and with acupuncture induct babies at 40 weeks. What's more we can even provide practical pain relief tips through acupressure that your partner can administer during labour.
There are independent scientific research studies which back up the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion in pregnancy for all the above conditions.
Put simply, acupuncture is a great way of helping women through a pregnancy, reducing the need for western medication.
